Date and Time: Saturday, October 24 | 9 am – 12:30 pm
Location: St. Andrew United Methodist Church | 815 Kanawha Turnpike, St. Albans

The Big Gay Bible Study is a workshop that aims to equip people with tools for studying Scripture, collectively putting those tools to use to explore questions about human sexuality. We will focus on understanding and responding to 6 “anti-LGBTQ+” passages of Scripture, as part of a broader goal of faithfully resisting the weaponization of Scripture.

Register by Tuesday, October 20, so we can prepare materials accordingly.

Why does this workshop matter?

Scripture is being weaponized in private and public life, harming people who are most vulnerable. People often say, “The Bible says…”, but sometimes the Bible isn’t as clear as people make it out to be. It can be hard to tell when weaponization is occurring, and even harder to know how to respond.

Anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs have polluted communities and politics across West Virginia, with lawmakers claiming Scriptural authority for their positions. People need tools to disentangle propagandized uses of Scripture and delve into the grace-filled nuances of the Biblical witness. People want to know how to respond to this ideology, whether in public forums or within circles of loved ones.
