Disarming the Bible: Major Plot Points
In partnership with West Virginia pastors Rev. Cindy Briggs-Biondi and Rev. Darick Biondi, Justice & Jubilee hosted Biblical Studies classes during the month of May specifically designed to help those who are unfamiliar with the Bible (or a little rusty) to identify when Scripture is being distorted and weaponized.
These classes gave participants knowledge of the Bible and its overarching story and themes, including care for the vulnerable, the relationship between faith and empire, and the ever-expanding, inclusive love of God, so that when you encounter family, coworkers, or greater society attempting to use the Bible to marginalize folks, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge needed to respond effectively.
Short videos were released weekly on the Justice & Jubilee YouTube channel, which you can watch on your own. During the month of May, participants could also choose to engage in the Zoom component where fuller explorations of the topic from that week’s video took place.
